Frequently Asked Questions
I have a stray/feral cat in my yard, what do I do?
First, let's talk about what you SHOULDN’T do. NEVER, EVER trap a cat without a plan! We receive many calls from people who have taken it upon themselves to trap a cat that has been hanging around and then call rescues and shelters to ask when they can drop it off. This is so unfair - the rescue or shelter now has to frantically find a place for the cat to go. If they are full, they may be unable to take the cat at that time and then what will you do? It is inhumane to keep a cat in a trap for a lengthy period of time. It is inhumane and illegal to trap and “dispose” a cat. If you have to release it, trapping it again when you have a plan will be much more difficult.
What you need to do...
Contact your nearest rescue or shelter! They will help you make a plan. They may be able to trap the cat for you or will provide you with information on how to trap. They may have a trap you can borrow. Call the rescue or shelter FIRST and make a plan BEFORE any trap is set!

How can I help my new kitty transition to his/her new home?
This is a big change for your new furry family member. He/she will need to adapt to the new sounds and smells of his/her new environment. It is best to provide him/her with a space of her/his own for at least a few days. The space could be a spare bedroom or bathroom. Please ensure that furniture that kitty can hide under should be avoided. Given the chance, he/she will hide instead of getting to know you. Do provide a nice comfortable hiding spot that you can access - your travel crate left out with the door propped open or removed is great for this. Treats and play are essential to help kitty gain your trust.

I applied to adopt a cat and haven't heard from you.
In many cases, we receive several applications for one cat or kitten. We do our very best to match our rescue kittens and cats with the most suitable home. We often rescue kittens and cats with special needs or those that have required countless hours of socialization. We want to ensure their forever home is suitable and the adoption successful. This means we do not adopt on a first come, first serve basis, but rather the best match for both adopter and adoptee. A declined application does not mean that we will not adopt a cat or kitten to you. It simply means that the cat or kitten you applied for may not have been a good match for your home.
