Ben & Larry
Starting in late 2019, Sammy’s Forgotten Felines launched a massive rescue mission at a very large feral cat colony outside of Kamloops. It took about 6 months, but in the end, Sammy’s rescued all 82 cats from the colony. Most of the cats and kittens from this colony were socialized and found loving homes as indoor kitties. The remaining cats were placed in safe sanctuaries where they can live out the rest of their life in safety and comfort. There are so many happy stories from this colony it’s hard to pick one! But some of you may remember Ben and Larry.
Ben and Larry were in our care for several months as part of their ‘house cat training’. They learned from their foster homes that humans are a source of comfort, entertainment and most importantly: food and treats! They learned that couches are not for hiding under, but for sleeping on! They learned that leaping, lunging, chasing, and climbing are all part of life for indoor kitties. At the end of an intense play session, they can curl up in bed and nap for as long as they would like, because they know when they wake up, the food bowl will still be overflowing with crunch’ems. After these two kitties had completed their training, they were transferred to C.A.R.E.S. and adopted into loving homes.
Larry and Ben were adopted together to a very nice couple, here is an update from their new home:
“Wow, we did not know that our boys were fully feral at one time - you have done an amazing job! They were very scared and overwhelmed at first, but little by little came to trust us and are now making themselves at home. They love to chase each other through the house, and of course they have big appetites to match their boundless energy! They're both so sweet, well-mannered, and affectionate, and can't seem to get enough pets or attention! Larry’s favourite toy is the stick part of a wand toy (ignores the attached toy), and Ben loves to chase bouncy balls. They both love the cat post at the window and watching birds and the comings and goings on the street.
They are bringing us such joy and watching them discover new things is hilarious: they have just discovered cardboard boxes and crinkly brown paper. We are now at the stage where we can pick Larry up for cuddles and he purrs up a storm and doesn't want to be put down. Wriggly Ben can still be a bit skittish at times if he thinks you're about to try to 'trap' him, but he loves attention and can't get enough pets, so we're just going at his pace and what he's comfortable with."
Thanks again for everything you do - you ladies are amazing and you should be very proud of yourselves and the work you've done! We will give them lots of cuddles from you!
